Crimson Swimmers Initiative: Empowering Youth Through Water Safety

Making Waves for a Safer Future

Drowning is one of the leading causes of death among children, and African American youth are 5.5 times more likely to drown in swimming pools than their peers. Many children in our community lack access to swim lessons and water safety education, putting them at greater risk.

That’s why the Concord Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has partnered with the Kannapolis YMCA to launch the Crimson Swimmers Initiative—a program dedicated to equipping minority youth with essential swim skills.

Our Mission

We are sponsoring 40 second-grade students from GW Carver Elementary to receive six extended swim lessons at the YMCA. Each child will also receive a swimsuit, goggles, towel, and tote bag. Transportation to and from lessons, provided by the YMCA.

By providing these lessons, we are giving children the skills and confidence to be safe in and around water—helping to reduce drowning rates and create a healthier, safer community.

How You Can Help

- Sponsor a Child – $110

- Make a Donation

Every contribution, big or small, helps us expand access to swim lessons for minority youth.

Business & Community Sponsorships Available

Local businesses and organizations can partner with us to help fund swim education and receive community recognition for their support.

Together, we can make a difference and equip our youth with the skills they need to stay safe in the water. Thank you for your generosity and commitment to empowering the next generation!
